SPECIAL NOTICE:
The Metropolitan Center for Far Eastern Art Studies is now entering a two-year moratorium of its Library, Individual, and Institutional grant programs. The full grant program will resume in the fall of 2013 with applications for 2014-2015 due by December 31, 2013.

The Doctoral grant program will continue to make awards while the other grant categories are suspended. Applications for the 2012-2013 Doctoral grant program ONLY will be accepted by the December 31, 2011 deadline.

Advanced Research and Publication by Individual Scholars:
The Metropolitan Center supports projects that reflect advanced scholarship and offer new insights into East Asian art. Applications are judged on the art historical importance of a project and the applicant’s record of professional accomplishment.

General Instructions
Grants to individual scholars are usually modest in scale, rarely cover all the costs of a project, and customarily serve as seed money, or to underwrite a discrete, clearly defined part of the whole. Please view our list of recent individual grants for examples.

As the Center rarely provides full support of large-scale individual activities, applicants are urged to seek funding from other agencies and to list such agencies in their applications. The Center reserves the right to adjust its awards in the light of other contributions a candidate may receive. Recipients of individual grants are requested to acknowledge the Center’s support if a publication is part of the grantee’s research project.
